"Right... sure thing Nathan. Yes... first thing in the morning... absolutely... you can count on me.", Kayde hit the red end button and slide the phone back into his pocket. Things had been rather crazy as of late. The High Rollers were trying to strike a deal with the Exiles, and if what Kayde had heard held true, The Royals were trying to do the same with the Rotters. He was not entirely sure if this meant that the Royals and the High Rollers were now competing with each other for something, or if it was mere coincidence and honestly he didnt particularly care either. He simply did as he was asked... most of the time. Tonight though, he had refused to do anything at all. He simply told Nathan that he felt he deserved a break, and he could like it or not, but Kayde still was not going to do anything asked of him. He also knew that nothing really could be done about it. If the High Rollers had a problem with it... well Kayde could simply just quit and be done with it. He had been a nomad before, and actually rather enjoyed it. He did as he pleased, answered to no one, and still got all of the blood his dead body desired. In fact, the only reason he had made it to this point in his life was because of the fact he had heard that Will and Nathan were settling down this part of America. Kayde had simply meant to stop in, say hello. Stay maybe a decade at the most, but then he himself had gotten caught up in the politics, and here he was. Many decades later, still here.
It had surprisingly paid off in the end. He received pure blood, and all vampires knew that pure blood was simply the best. Though Kayde was one who was not very particular. Blood was Blood. It was what he needed to survive, and he'd drank it has it came. Hell, he'd even gone a few years living off of mostly animal blood when he was living in some woods in Canada. Blood aside, it had paid off even more than that. For the first time time in Kaydes one hundred and seventy nine years of existence, he was in love. It was an emotion he hated at first. How weak this must make him! When he was human, he had had his fun with the ladies. He was even planning on picking one to settle down with, but it wasn't because he was in love. No, he was going to settle down because it was what was expected of him. But now, well.... he knew what it felt like to be in love. It was wonderful, it was terrible, and it was scary as hell. To make things worse, he was in love with.... a human. How horrible was that? Kayde was not suppose to even care about the well being of humans, let alone have romantic feelings for one. But here Kayde was....absolutely and inexcusably in love with a breather.
In fact, the very reason he had refused to do anything this particular night was due to the fact that he planned on taking this breather on a date.... well.... sort of. There was not much he and Audra could do. Things between the two were very secret, and for extremely good reason. First off, it was completely unheard of for a vampire to date a human. In fact, Kayde had never heard of a vampire even really befriending a human for more than blood. In fact, Will made it very clear that humans were nothing more than pathetic vial creatures who were only good for their tasty blood. It was no wonder the two kept things quiet. Audra often feared what the brother would say. Honestly though, the only reason Kayde kept it under wraps was for her own safety. He had far too many enemies in the world who would have loved nothing more than to kill anything that Kayde valued or loved. They'd have Audra brutally murdered over night. No, Kayde couldn't...and wouldn't put Audra through that kind of danger. He simply cared for the girl too much.
In fact, he had picked up her favorite food, and was currently waiting for her on top of the rooftop of the tallest building in town. He had discovered the hidden door to the roof over a decade ago, and this had been his and Audras meeting place for the past two months. He laid out a blanket and set the cooler full of soda and blood bags on top of it. He felt slightly foolish for it, figured she'd probably poke fun at him for trying to make it look better than what it was... a cold roof top. But she deserved it, at least he thought so. He placed a few lamps around the blanket, and kept the food in the bag, trying to protect it from the cold the best he could. All he could do now was wait. He walked over to the edge of the roof top, looking down to the tiny blinking lights below, that he knew were cars. He wasnt sure how long he had been standing there, but suddenly he could hear footsteps, hear the all too familiar sounds of the beating heart he knew so well. Sniffing slightly, he could smell the mix of her blood and perfume... utterly intoxicating. Still staring down at the busy street below, he said "You smell as lovely as always dear." turning around to face her, his face grew to a smile. "And you look as good as you smell. Please... sit.. I've brought you food in the bag." He did not bother to get anything for himself other than the blood. After all, what was the point? It tasted nothing to him anymore.
