Audra spun around in her chair at her desk three times before stopping with a large sigh. She rested her elbows on her desk and put her head in her hands. God was she bored. Her eyes found their way to the clock on her computer. It was getting late. Nine thirty. She was used to working at night though. She was kind of used to working random hours in general. Vampires, especially the royals, could afford the lotion that allowed them to be out during the day. That however did not mean they always wanted to be out during the day or that they wanted to work during the day. And today seemed to be that case. So here she was, working at night. Elliot was working too which meant she'd probably go home at the same time he did. Unless he was staying later. Which meant he would make sure she got home okay and then find his way back to his office. It was a normal routine really. Her eyes fell to the hall that she knew if she walked back, she would find her brother's office. She spun in her chair to face the hallway. Maybe if she stared and focused hard enough, Elliot would know she was bored and wanted to go home. Yes. Good plan, Audra. She narrowed her eyes and focused on the hallway for what felt like twenty five minutes.
Nothing. She sighed and sat up, looking at the clock again. 9:32. Really? She sighed again. No one was coming in, no one was calling. She literally had nothing to do. She wanted to go home. No no, she wanted to go out. Ha. Good joke though. She was not allowed to go out to the clubs. It wasn't her age either because honestly anymore it didn't matter. The vampires in this city had a hold on everything and as long as you had blood to give, you were old enough to get in the club. No, with her age and being affiliated with the royals, it would be easy to get into the clubs. So what was stopping her? Elliot. Since they lost their parents (who she honestly didn't remember at all) he was the only family she had and he was in charge. So when he said no clubs, he meant no clubs. She knew why. She wasn't dumb. She was pure and vampires now a day would kill for blood like hers. No. They did kill for blood like hers. She got it really. She liked living. But she also liked dancing. And drinking. And going out.
Audra sighed. Again. She couldn't take sitting at work tonight. She flipped open the appointment book for the palace. She had already called everyone and confirmed appointments for tomorrow. That only had taken her about an hour. She glanced to Elliot's schedule. He was busy. Damn. She couldn't go bother him for some entertainment. Which she had done before. And got scolded for. Messing around the way she did was not really allowed. She glanced to Breannan's schedule. He wasn't busy at the moment. Then again, bothering him for entertainment was a death sentence. But she was so bored. She stood up and straightened her knee length sun dress out before walking down the hallway back to the royal leader's office. What was she doing exactly? She couldn't bother him. No she was going to say she was sick and go home. And then she was going to sneak out which Elliot was busy at work. She'd be home before he got back. No harm done.
Reaching the door to Breannan's office, Audra took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. It was no secret that he frightened her. Most vampires did. Breannan did more than any other, even more than Elliot when he was mad at her. She knocked softly twice before hearing a voice telling her to come in. She opened the door and stepped in, closing the door behind her. Audra curtsied slightly as she always did for Breannan and could feel her face flush. She was nervous as hell. Not only did he make her nervous to begin with, but here she was about to lie to him. She swallowed hard. "Brean- I mean, Sir. I'm sorry to bother you. I was just wondering if it would be okay if I left early today? I'm... not feeling so well, you see... and I kind of wanted to go home.. and get some sleep." She forced a small cough into her hand and bit her bottom lip. "If not, it's fine! I can finish my shift if you need me to stay..." This was a bad idea. He was going to know she was lying and he was probably going to punish her. Oh Elliot would be so angry.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - WORDS LIKE VIOLENCE BREAK THE SILENCE COME CRASHING IN, INTO MY WORLD. PAINFUL TO ME, PEIRCE RIGHT THROUGH ME. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Breannan gazed at the floor, soaking up the cool breeze that circulated around his office, smoking a cigarette. He never smoked inside. It was ‘unprofessional.’ But smoking was the only habitually human behavior that he still maintained; everything thing else had been weeded out through time. Too much of that time spent in various covens. Any decent vampire has spent time in a coven, especially when you were what Breannan was a century ago; the scum of the earth, a vampire who once had been the greatest warrior, the one they called the ‘Celtic Hound.’ That’s right, for a decade he had been considered what they now deemed a rotter.
He didn’t have to be; his name alone was known worldwide. Breannan was the man who could dispatch an entire battlefield. Alone. But after a couple decades of disappearing into the lower-class world, many forgot that name. Forgot his strength.
He had only just moved to America. Not only that, but he was practically mute, observing the cruelties of the average coven behavior from a distance, mostly in disgust. Breannan was only the slightest bit ashamed of that past, spent in gutter, burying himself in the nighttime in abandoned lots. At some point he had had enough. He cleaned himself up, found himself a patron, and gained a considerable amount of allies through a newfound , amiable attitude.
So no one questioned him after he slaughtered an entire council of ‘old royals.’ Of course, rebellion had been brewing for quite some time. Breannan was new, fresh, innovative. He was a genius in most aspects too. He had friends, like Nathan, to back him up. Strong bonds to rich people. And, of course, those who still remembered the chill that used to be associated with the Cleirigh clan. That combined got him to the spacious, professionally decorated office that he sat in that moment, an untouched glass of blood in front of him and a cigarette steaming from between his fingers.
Breannan pressed said cigarette to his lips and puffed. He couldn’t taste the cigarette, like he couldn’t taste any human food anymore, but the way that the smoke dispersed into the atmosphere above was oddly comforting, ritualistic. He was pretty sure he had smoked something as a human, but it wasn’t tobacco. The memory was so vague that it was almost just a grey spot in the back of his mind. As grey as smoke. He let his baby blues follow the trail of polluting steam as if poured slowly from his mouth. He was probably off for the rest of the night, which was gratifying. It meant he could either go and find someone to prey on, or someone to play with. Or both. In the very back of his mind, a mental portrait of William came into his mind, but he pushed it far back into the deepest cervices of his brain, past his human recollection. He didn’t want to be thinking of that at the moment. He needed a distraction before he started thinking on last night’s events.
Thankfully, the distraction arrived shortly after.
He glanced up at the sound of soft feet on hard marble long before Audra reached the door. As she did, her scent wafted into the cracks of the mahogany door, and he cracked a slow smile as her fingers rapped upon the door.
“Come in.”
She did, surprisingly enough. Breannan knew she feared him; everyone did. But with humans, especially human innocents, it was more easily recognizable; her reddened cheeks, her fidgeting, the way she spoke faster and less intelligently. Plus, her scent. He could literally smell fear, and in humans it as oh so obvious. He eyes her silently as she babbled on. She was a beautiful girl, truly lovely. Breannan could see why Elliot was so protective; those big eyes and silky skin. Breannan took another long drag from his cigarette, nearing a bud state, and the drew from the crystalline wine glass filled with blood before him.
He could smell her lies, too. She was possibly one of the worst liars he had ever met, and it was incredibly amusing. It was even more comical as she blathered on, growing more and more fearful as she tried to make up excuses. He flicked his dead cig into an ashtray on his desk, and leaned back into his seat. Breannan rubbed his chin, as if thinking hard about it. It was more human that way.
“Audra, my dear girl, stop lying to me.” He said rather severely, voice smooth as silk. Breannan stared her in the eyes, unsmiling, only because it was funny when she squirmed. Then he cracked a genuine smile and gave one of his rare chuckles. “You are probably the worst liar I have ever seen.” He said, his tone now pleasant. “So you want to go out and do human, teenager things, I get it.” Breannan smiled. He wasn’t trying to be parental in any way, but that last sentence sounded so fatherly that it almost caught in his throat. He was weirding himself out, playing with this girl. “You forget I’ve seen both you and your brother grow up. I get it.” He said that, but at the same time he didn’t.
“Where do you want to go out to?” His voice dropped, eyes narrowed. There was a warning against her pitiful lies in those piercing blue eyes.

Why her brain felt it was a good idea to go and lie to Breannan, she wasn't sure. Her feet had listened to her brain though and she found herself walking back the long hallway to his office. Yes she was a secretary but she was separated in some degree from day to day operations. She simply answered phones and scheduled appointments. Only certain vampires were allowed to use the door to the palace that led to her desk first. Another measurement of Elliot's protection for her. So it took her a couple minutes to reach Breannan's large pretty door. She raised her hand to knock but hesitated. She should go back to her desk. She could get into a lot of trouble for this. However, she was sure he knew she was here already. Vampires had an amazing sense of smell. It baffled her how they could smell people coming, smell feelings. It was strange. And also too late to turn back now because of it. So she knocked and went in with permission.
As soon as Audra started speaking she instantly regretted it. She had heard stories about how cruel Breannan could be to those who crossed him. Lying to him was not the best idea she had ever had. She looked to him once she was done speaking. She couldn't read his face. She hated that. Not that she was good at reading emotions but some she could. Elliot's was one she could. She could normally tell when he was mad at her, didn't believe her, worried, anything like that. She couldn't with Breannan. Even though she had known him for some time now, she just couldn't read him. Then he spoke. Shit. Shit shit shit. Oh he was mad. He knew she was lying. Her eyes widened and stayed on him. Was he going to hurt her? Oh god she hoped not. What if he told Elliot? That would be worse than anything he did to her. Elliot would lay into her for sure. That was his sire. She knew Elliot respected Breannan. She knew he would never lie to him. So if he found out she did, oh he would be so mad.
She hung her head like a small child. "I.. I'm sorry..." But then he spoke again. This time his tone as not mad or stern. It was... pleasant? She was confused. She looked back up to him as he told her she was the worst liar he had ever seen. Yeah she probably was. Then he continued. Wait. He didn't seem mad at all. No, he was smiling. She wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or anxious. Audra felt a little of both. She also felt something else. She couldn't really describe it but then she realized he sounded somewhat... fatherly? It made a bit of sense really. Honestly other than Elliot he was the closest thing to family she had. She wondered if this is what it was like to have a dad. Feeling this anxious and worried to lie to them because you could get into trouble. She always heard people say they hated when their parents were mad or disappointed with them. She never had that. She could barely remember her parents. But she knew she hated it when Elliot was mad. And she certainly didn't want the leader of any of the vampire groups mad at her either. She bit her bottom lip out of nervousness as he spoke to her more and then asked her where she wanted to go.
She cocked her head to the side slightly. "I.. what?" Where did she want to go? How did he know she wanted to go out? Well obviously she wanted to get out of work to do something. Should she tell him? She already lied to him and he caught her right away. She probably should just be straight up with him now. "I want to go out.. to the clubs. Club pure. I was going to sneak in because Elliot doesn't allow me there. Actually, he doesn't allow me in any club." Audra stopped. "I'm sorry I'm rambling now. I'm sorry.." She bit her lip again. What was she doing? Breannan didn't care about how she wasn't allowed to go out to clubs. He had bigger things to worry about than a nineteen year old's teenage problems. "I'll leave you alone now.. I'm sorry."
